iPads @ HHES Library!

September 28, 2010

The HHES Library is now the proud owner of 5 iPads!  Our goal first quarter was to get them into the hands of as many teachers as we could.  After a brief inservice teachers were allowed to check the iPads out for a week at a time to become familiar with the tool and see if it might be something they would like to make use of in their classroom.

Student Library Intern, Haley Morton, demonstrates how to use one of the new iPads to HHES staff member Beverly C.

One of this year’s student teachers spends time exploring the iPad.

Students had a chance to try out some writing techniques as well as listen to one of Raven’s books.  Each child was given one of her books to take home. Thanks Mrs. Hayden for getting the ball rolling to have Ms Wi present at our library!

HHES PTA & VDZ Literacy Council Are The Best!

September 28, 2010

Mrs. Cranor shows off a few of the great books purchased by the HHES PTA and Valdez Literacy Council.

Students at HHES School walked into the library within the first weeks  to almost $1000 worth of Scholastic books thanks to the Valdez Literacy Council and HHES PTA!  These organizations support the library by allowing the library staff to purchase books with their book fair bonus points.  Kids have been walking out of the library with books on dinosaurs, tornadoes, hot chapter books they’ve  been asking for, and much much more.  We were also able to purchase books and DVD’s to support the teachers in the subjects they teach.

Take time to thank those individuals who help out on the HHES PTA and the Valdez Literacy Council!

French Student Comes To HHES Library

September 2, 2010

HHES Students got a chance to learn a little about France from a guest presenter.

Thanks to Cynthia Shidner, a past exchange student back for a brief visit came to the library to talk to students about her country.  The kids enjoyed the opportunity of asking questions and learning more about this European country.
